Rob Baker

Rob Baker is best known as a member of The Tragically Hip. A graduate of Queen’s University (BFA’86), he has put his visual arts studies to use designing many of the band’s T-shirts and album art. His band, Stripper’s Union, recently released a new album, The Undertaking.  Rob was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2005 and in 2017, Rob was made a Companion of the Order of Canada. 

Rob has always been a big supporter of his community, giving his time, money, and profile to local and national charities with a focus on medical, musical, and environmental causes. 

This is Rob’s eighth time judging the provincial 3MT.

Miptoon (Anthony Chegahno)

Miptoon is a Knowledge Holder and serves as a councillor of the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation. Previously, he has held a number of leadership positions in his home community including Youth Worker, Pastor and Miptoon is a Knowledge Holder and serves as a councillor of the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation. Previously, he has held a number of leadership positions in his home community including Youth Worker, Pastor and Director of the Native Child Welfare Program.  He generously serves on the President’s Advisory Committee on Indigenous Initiatives at the University of Guelph and regularly contributes to undergraduate and graduate learning.  Miptoon holds a Masters of Theology degree.

Mirela Rahneva

Mirela “Mimi” Rahneva is a member of Canada’s national sledding team who grabbed fifth place in skeleton at the Beijing Winter Olympics.  Mirela played rugby while completing a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Guelph, and was named a CIS All-Star in 2010, the same year the Gryphons won the OUA title and captured bronze at the CIS Championships. Mirela recently earned a Masters in Management Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Queen’s University.

The Great Orbax

Orbax has been reaching out to junior scientists as an experi-mentor and bringing science edutainment to televisions and the internet for over a decade. Known primarily through his work with Guinness World Records Science & Stuff as well as his travelling kids show Orbax & Pepper Do Science, he has also spent 12 years as a physics lecturer at the University of Guelph.
